Hugo

This week in movie reviews: Hugo, based on the children’s book The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
I loved this movie. I loved the book, and the film adaptation was well done. No book I’ve ever read has begged more for a movie version than this. It’s a very visual book, largely comprised of intricate pencil drawings, and its plot involves early film-making. What I’m saying here, is go read the book. If you like it, go see the movie. It’s like the book, but with two outstanding young actors, a fabulous supporting cast, excellent cinematography and sets, and a sequence towards the end during which my mouth hung open with childlike glee.
Also, this movie did nothing at all to cure the inappropriate crush I have on Chloe Grace Moretz.
My completely subjective movie rank so far this year:
1. Hugo
2. The Help
3. Captain America
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2
5. Source Code
6. Hanna
7. Thor
8. Rango
9. Paul
10. The Adjustment Bureau
11. X-Men: First Class
12. Pirates: On Stranger Tides
13. Sucker Punch
14. Green Hornet
15. Three Musketeers
16. Your Highness
17. Cowboys & Aliens
18. I Am Number Four
