Life of Pi

Life of Pi was not really what I was expecting – more to the point, I didn’t actually give much thought to what the movie was about before deciding to see it. I had not planned on watching it, but my sister insisted that I should, and the trailer was pretty enough that I agreed. Fundamentally, however, I am not the target audience for this film.
Visually, the movie is stunning. I did not get to see it in 3D, but that’s ok. The ocean sequences were plenty impressive in 2D.
The plot, however, is a spiritual journey that edges past “inspirational” to “preachy.” I understand what they were trying to do, and they did it pretty well, and I know that there is a very large audience for this sort of message. It was even clever in places, but it is not a story that I appreciate on the level it was intended to be appreciated.
