Jupiter Ascending

Jupiter Ascending is a sci-fi action film from the Wachowskis (The Matrix) starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum's abs. Actually, his acting performance is fine, even through the prosthetic fangs. His Caine is probably the best character in the movie. The only other one that comes close is Kunis' titular Jupiter, who spends much of the movie reacting, which is never a great trait for a main character. Still, she has her moments.

Unfortunately for the both of them, the plot of this film isn't great. It seems likely that the Wachowskis wanted something epic, profound, and deep, but only managed epic. Still, epic is much better than nothing. The visuals are spectacular. This film looks like nothing else, and that's a good thing. The action scenes are also top-notch, and while some elements get repetitive, the chase scene early in the movie is one of the best I've seen.

I enjoyed Jupiter Ascending. It's not actually a good movie, but it's a lot of fun as long as you can avoid thinking too hard about the plot, and it's a visual treat.

  1. The way my friend put it was "this is a terrible movie and you should see it right now." I agree. Also, gravity roller blades.
