Pitch Perfect 2

I saw this movie four months ago, which is to say this isn't going to be a super high-quality in-depth review. I write these reviews for fun, and I haven't been feeling the fun for the last four months.

-----

I did not see the original Pitch Perfect in the theater. I was never a theatre/drama/band kid, and while I have liked some musicals in the past, I don't tend to seek them out. I did see it on video, however, mostly because of the cups song. And I liked it. It was fun.

I don't recommend seeing Pitch Perfect 2 without seeing the first one - it relies too much on the characters and social situations which were set up in the first one. So, figuring out whether you should watch the second film is as easy as watching the first - if you liked that, you'll almost certainly like the second.

This is not to say that it's exactly the same as the first one. It meaningfully progresses the stories of the characters using some of the same tropes as the first, but with new ones as well. It also trades some old characters out for new ones (one of which is more or less the main characters).

It retains the two main selling points of the first movie - it's funny, and has nice singing. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and have very little negative to say about it.
