Tomorrowland

I saw this movie four months ago, which is to say this isn't going to be a super high-quality in-depth review. I write these reviews for fun, and I haven't been feeling the fun for the last four months.

Tomorrowland had a great trailer. Unfortunately, this is one of those movies where the trailer is better than the movie. This isn't to say that the movie is terrible, but it is dis appointing. The idea for the movie is not a bad one - take the optimistic futurism of the Space Age which produced the titular Disney park feature, and make a plot about applying that to the modern world. The finished product, though, is overbearingly preachy.

Most of the problem is systemic - that's the way the project was designed. Quite a bit, however, is specific to George Clooney's character, who spends most of the movie being incredibly bitter and cynical, which is just not fun to watch.

Britt Robertson's character is much better, and played well, but Raffey Cassidy steals the show as Athena. Hugh Laurie's part is easily the worst character I've seen him play.

The movie has good visuals, and I sympathize with the environmentalist message, but the tone through much of the film combined with the heavy-handed moralizing detract from the experience.
